Icarus is a bold new reimagining of the classic Greek myth, co-written by Maxine Mellor, David Burton, Merlynn Tong and Maddie Nixon as the 2026 commissioned script for Queensland Theatre's The Scene Project. Created specifically for thousands of secondary school students across Queensland, the play embraces post-dramatic storytelling, inviting young artists to reshape, remix and reinterpret the myth through their own unique theatrical vision. Blending ancient story with contemporary perspectives, Icarus celebrates creativity, collaboration and the exhilaration of daring to fly a little too close to the sun.
