A co-commission between Queensland Theatre Company and the State Library of Queensland, Maxine Mellor’s Mystery Project, is an engaging murder mystery specially written for 9 – 12 year olds.

Agatha, an aspiring detective and general know-it-all who doesn't play well with others, has run away from after-school care to be by herself in the library. But the mysterious - and insistent -  Elspeth appears and challenges Agatha to solve her century-old dark secret. Agatha soon learns that in order to solve this mystery, she'll have to play by someone else's rules.

Maxine Mellor’s Mystery Project was developed during several months’ residency at the State Library of Queensland, using items from the SLQ collection as research stimulus, and with creative support from Queensland Theatre Company. It played a successful school-holiday season in April 2009 at the Studio at the State Library of Queensland, and toured schools and libraries of far and inner-north Queensland in mid 2009.
